A doula is calm, present, aware, and respectful of the sacredness of the birthing woman's work. I offer you complete unconditional support, physical and emotional throughout your labor and birth. Women's bodies have an amazing wisdom, an innate ability to grow and birth a baby, and especially during pregnancy and birth we need to learn to trust our bodies wisdom. My role is to educate, strengthen and nurture women throughout pregnancy and birth so they can make their own decisions about what's best for them and their baby.
My personal journey as a doula began in 1994 when I gave birth to my first daughter. Over the next nine years my husband and I went on to have four more children, two boys and two more girls. Throughout my personal birth journey I have experienced everything from natural births, emergency c-sections, placenta abruption, induction and more. Sadly, I have also experienced the loss of three pregnancies through miscarriage. Postpartum depression is also something I have dealt with. At the time, my own youth, inexperience and lack of support made difficult situations even harder to deal with, and I believe if I had had a doula, her support and knowledge would have been priceless.
I am a homeschooling mother of five and I have been working as a doula since 2005. I have completed the certification requirements of DONA and I am a member of the Red Deer Doula Association. Among the many births I have had the honor of supporting are twins, elective cesareans and VBAC's. My experiences have proven to be invaluable in offering support to families. I will meet with you at least twice before your birth, with each meeting being tailored to your unique needs. Together, we will discuss your vision for your birth and learn about what will be most effective for you as far as comfort measures, optimum fetal and maternal positioning and as well as coping techniques.
Our birth experiences will stay with us forever, as mothers and children, and it is my wish for all mothers and babies to be blessed with a gentle birth. I support not only the birth of a baby, but the birth of a mother, and the beginning of a family. My goal to achieve this one baby, one mother and one family at a time. I look forward to meeting with you, learning from you, and supporting you as you embark on your personal journey.
